About the project

In 2016, the decision was made to restore the church in order to increase the average number of visitors. With the help of the project management company Regional Consulting & Management SA, the designer M&M Design SRL and the technical support Ostentum SRL respectively, the project “Restoration of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael” was implemented, financed with European funds through the Regional Operational Program 2014 – 2020, Priority Axis 5 – Improvement of the urban environment and preservation, protection and sustainable use of cultural heritage, Investment Priority 5.1 – Preservation, protection, promotion and development of natural and cultural heritage. On October 04, 2017, Grant Contract No. 534 was signed with the Ministry of Regional Development, Public Administration and European Funds (current name: Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration) as the managing authority and the Northwest Regional Development Agency as the intermediary body, and on July 2, 2018, after a competitive tendering procedure, the contract for the rehabilitation works was signed with the construction company KÉSZ Építő és Szerelő Zrt. Szeged Branch, Cluj – Napoca. The works started on August 6, 2018 and the project is scheduled to be completed by August 1, 2022.

The objective of the project is to increase the average annual number of visitors to the Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael in Cluj-Napoca by enhancing its cultural heritage, thus contributing to increasing the competitiveness of the region. Through the implementation of the project, an average increase of 6% in the number of visitors to the Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael is expected.

Specific objectives:

  • To upgrade the Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael in Cluj-Napoca County by rehabilitating the church in order to fully integrate it into the tourist circuit.
  • Improve the accessibility of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Cluj-Napoca for all categories of tourists.
  • Promoting the project and the tourist offer of the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Michael.

The result of the project: a restored, protected and preserved cultural monument (LMI code: CJ-II-m-A-07469).

Start date: August 31, 2016

Implementation period 48 months from the signing of the grant agreement on 04 October 2017.

The total value of the project is 30,741,134.23 lei, of which the non-repayable financing is 18,016,117.04 lei, consisting of an EU contribution (ERDF) in the amount of 15,626,223.96 lei and a national contribution in the amount of 2,389,893.08 lei.
